Why a clock time countdown is different
A countdown to a clock time never runs out. When noon passes, the page turns to the next one the following day.
A fixed clock time like noon is one of the most common things people look up. It turns up in school timetables, travel plans, medication schedules and live events. A live count removes the need to do the sum yourself.
We look for the next noon on your clock. When today's has gone, the count moves on to tomorrow's.
The seconds tile moves every second, which makes it a good check that the page is live. The minutes tile moves once a minute. Together they show the wait to noon at two scales.
The bar fills over the day, from one noon to the next. It gives a picture of what the number means.
At most a day separates you from noon, and often much less. The number on the page falls from a high point just after the moment passes to zero when it arrives.
Working across time zones
The same clock reading is a different moment in each city. When it is noon in one place, it is another time of day elsewhere.
Share the table with your team. It makes clear what noon means for each person.
A few weeks each spring and autumn the gaps are odd. Countries change their clocks on different dates.
The page uses the zone your device reports. If it looks wrong, check your device settings. You can also pick a city by hand to see its own count.
Using the countdown
A day has 24 hours, and noon is one point on that clock. The bar and tiles show how long is left, so you can judge whether one more task fits.
Some watch for noon to finish work, others to start. Either way, a countdown saves doing the sum.
People set alarms for noon, but an alarm does not show how long is left. The countdown does. It lets you see the time shrink and decide how to spend what remains.
The count is rebuilt each time you look at the page. A long wait in another tab does no harm.
The Share button copies the link to this page. Whoever opens it gets the count for noon on their own clock. You need not work out the time zone difference.
A nap, an early start or a late finish all depend on the gap to noon. The page gives the exact hours and minutes, so you can see how much sleep each plan leaves you.
Choose another city in the picker and the numbers update for that place.
