Pages made from this tool with your dates in the address are not indexed by search engines.
How to use it
- Choose a start date. It defaults to today.
- Choose an end date, in the past or the future.
- Tick "Include the end date" if you want to count both days, for a booking or a contract.
Worked example
From Nov 3 to Dec 25, 2026 is 52 days. Include the end date and it becomes 53.
Of those 52 days, 38 fall on a weekday and 14 on a weekend. Public holidays are only removed on the business days tab.
With or without the end date?
Leave it unticked
For nights, waiting time and "days until". A hotel stay from December 24 to 27 is 3 nights.
Tick it
For days you use up, like leave, rentals or contracts. Monday, December 21 to Thursday, December 24 is 4 days off.

Common uses
People use this tool for notice periods, visa stays, return windows and project deadlines. It also answers "how old am I in days" and "how long have we been together".
For a date that people often search, we have a ready page. Try the holiday countdowns, or the months and calendar dates lists.
Date duration in years, months, weeks and days
The duration between two dates is the gap written as years, months, weeks and days. The tool shows the total days first, then weeks and days, then months and days.
Months have different lengths, so we count whole calendar months first and then the days left over. For hours and minutes between two clock times, use the hours calculator.
Worked example: Friday, March 8, 2024 to Friday, November 20, 2026 is 2 years, 8 months and 12 days. That is 987 days in total, or 141 weeks and 0 days.
How the count works
The tool counts whole calendar days. The start date is counted, and the end date is not, unless you tick the box.
If the end date is earlier than the start date, the tool swaps them for you and says so. The result is always a positive number of days.
Weeks and days divide the total by seven. Months and days use calendar months, so January 31 to March 1 is one month and one day.
Leap years and long spans
The calculator knows about leap days. A span that crosses February 29 includes it, so one year is 366 days when the leap day falls inside it.
The tool accepts dates from 1900 to 2100. For a span of many decades the days figure is exact, but the months figure is a calendar count and not an average.
Days, weeks and months compared
A span of time can be said in many units, and each one hides something. Days are exact, weeks are easy to picture, and months match how people talk about plans.
The tool shows all three at once. Use days for contracts and weeks for projects. Months and days suit anything you would say aloud, such as "three months and ten days".
The weekday and weekend split is useful for work. It shows how many of the days could be worked, before holidays are taken out.
Dates in the past
The tool works backwards just as well. Put an old date first and today second. You will see how long it has been since a move or a first day at work.
If you enter the later date first, the tool swaps them and tells you. That saves a negative number and keeps the answer easy to read.
For a whole year rather than a date, the how long ago pages give years, months and days with a few calendar facts.
Checking a result by hand
You can check any answer with a calendar. Count the days left in the first month, add the full months in between, and add the days into the last month.
Leap years are the usual trap. A span from January to March gains a day when February has 29, and the tool includes it automatically.
If your own count differs by one, check whether you counted the end date. That is the most common reason for a gap of a single day.
Tips for accurate counts
Decide before you start whether the last day counts. Write it down, because two people can reach different answers from the same dates.
Use the copy link button to keep a result. It stores both dates in the address, so a colleague can check your numbers in one click.
For repeated checks, bookmark the link with the dates you use most. Change the end date and the count updates at once.
Questions people ask
Does the count include the start date?
Yes. The start date is counted and the end date is not. Tick the include box to count the end date as well.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. A leap day inside the range is counted as a normal day, so the totals match the real calendar.
Why do months show as months and days?
Months have different lengths, so a month figure on its own is loose. The tool shows whole months first and then the days left over.
Are my dates saved?
No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing is sent to us. A result link holds the dates only in the address.
How do I calculate the duration between two dates?
Pick a start date and an end date. The tool shows the duration as days, as weeks and days, and as months and days. Tick the box to count the end date too.
