Why the number of Sundays changes each year

Seven does not go into 365 cleanly. The remainder of one pushes a fixed date forward a weekday each year, and that is why counts change.

The date of Easter Sunday does not move, but its weekday does. As a Sunday this year, it leaves 20 Sundays to count.

Add a leap day and the weekday of Easter moves by two. That is why the gap between good and quiet years is uneven.

The number is only right for the day you read it. It steps down by one with every Sunday, down to zero before Easter Sunday.

Using the count for planning

If you do something every Sunday, this count is your remaining supply. It tells you how many more times you can do it before Easter Sunday.

Coaches, tutors and caterers who work on Sundays can see their calendar load at a glance. The count shows how many are still free.

The total excludes today and the day of Easter Sunday. Add one for each of those you want counted, if it is a Sunday.

The Sundays before Easter are separated by exactly one week. That makes them a natural way to cut a long countdown into even parts.

When time is short, treat the last two Sundays as a buffer. Plan the main work earlier so that a slip does not matter.

Share the page with a partner or a team. Everyone sees the same number of Sundays left, and nobody has to do the sums.

Treat the count as a guide. Plans change, and a Sunday may be lost to travel, illness or a public holiday.

Counting Sundays is a small task that saves time. Instead of flipping a calendar, you read one number and move on to the next job.

Clubs and classes that meet on a Sunday can use the figure for their term plan. Each Sunday in the list is one session you can book. Bookmark it to save time later.

A page like this works best as a quick check before you commit to dates. For a contract or a legal deadline, confirm the wording with the other party.

The page counts only the Sundays that fall before Easter, so the day itself is not in the total. That keeps the figure easy to check.
