How we count the Tuesdays

Think of a window that opens tomorrow and closes the day before Easter Sunday. We count the Tuesdays inside it and leave both ends out.

Why count Tuesdays at all? Because deadlines, pay and routines are often tied to a single day of the week, and Easter Sunday is a deadline for many.

In all there are 20 Tuesdays before Easter. You will meet the first on Tuesday, November 10 and the final one on Tuesday, March 23.

Why the number of Tuesdays changes each year

A year holds 52 weeks and a single extra day. That day is the reason a fixed date does not stay on the same weekday.

Because of the shift, Easter lands on a different day of the week each year. This year it falls on a Sunday, and that is why the count above is 20.

The 29th of February shakes up the rhythm. A date that moved one weekday last year may move two this time.

Time moves the answer. Every Tuesday that goes by is crossed off, so tomorrow's figure may be one lower than today's.

Using the count for planning

Think of each Tuesday as one slot in a schedule. The count shows how many slots are free, so you can divide the work.

Delivery teams, rota planners and parents of busy children all like a count by weekday. It reduces a month of dates to one number.

Note that neither today nor Easter Sunday is counted. If one of them is a Tuesday and matters to you, add it back yourself.

On a Tuesday the week has a particular pace, and the build-up to Easter Sunday follows it. Use the table to see which ones are still ahead.

Count backward from Easter Sunday if that helps. The last Tuesday before it is the one to protect, and the rest can be flexible.

Use the table as a to-do list. Tick off each Tuesday as it passes and the remaining count takes care of itself.

For a different weekday, use the tiles near the top. They show the same span for every day of the week.

A Tuesday count is also a way to see how fast time passes. Seeing the number fall each week can be motivating.

Parents, carers and coaches who plan around a Tuesday find the countdown useful. It turns a vague wait into a number you can write down. It takes a few seconds to read.

Some people like to count backwards from Easter. Each Tuesday that passes takes one off the total, which makes the wait feel shorter.

Because the Tuesdays are listed in order, you can spot gaps and doubled up weeks at a glance. That helps when a plan has to be rearranged.

Planning around the Tuesdays

Tuesday, March 23 is the last Tuesday before Easter.

Paydays before Easter

Weekly or every other week, the planner works out your Tuesday paydays before Easter. Start by picking your next one.

10 paydays before Easter Nov 10, Nov 24, Dec 8, Dec 22, Jan 5, Jan 19, Feb 2, Feb 16, Mar 2, Mar 16

Check your employer's calendar. Some move paydays when they fall on a holiday.

The same count in other years

Different years give different totals. The grid lists the weekday of Easter beside each count so you can see why.

Questions people ask

Is Easter Sunday counted as a Tuesday?

It makes no difference this year, because Easter Sunday falls on a Sunday. We never count the day itself.

Is today counted?

We do not count today. A Tuesday that has already started is not in the total, and it rolls over at local midnight.

Does the count change in another time zone?

Only when dates differ. Between zones, the day changes at different moments, and the count moves with it.

Can a month have 5 Tuesdays?

Sometimes. A month of 29 days or longer will have five Tuesdays when its first day is the right weekday. See Tuesdays in 2028 for the months with five.

How many Tuesdays are left in 2026?

Expect 8 before 2026 ends. The last one lands on Tuesday, December 29.
