Why the number of Thursdays changes each year

A normal year has 365 days, which is 52 full weeks and one extra day. That extra day moves every date forward by one weekday each year.

A Friday is where Black Friday falls this year, and so 3 Thursdays remain. A different weekday would change the answer.

Every fourth year gains a February 29. That extra day doubles the weekday shift for dates that come after it.

A passing Thursday reduces the count by one. After the final Thursday before Black Friday, the page shows none left.

Using the count for planning

If you do something every Thursday, this count is your remaining supply. It tells you how many more times you can do it before Black Friday.

Anyone who repeats a task on a Thursday will find a use for this. It turns a vague deadline into a set number of turns.

Note that neither today nor Black Friday is counted. If one of them is a Thursday and matters to you, add it back yourself.

A Thursday is a handy checkpoint. With Black Friday ahead, you can use each one to review what is done and what is left.

If a deadline falls near Black Friday, work backward. Pick the last Thursday you can use, then space the earlier ones a week apart.

Use the table as a to-do list. Tick off each Thursday as it passes and the remaining count takes care of itself.

If the count reaches zero, the page tells you so. After that it looks ahead to the next occurrence of Black Friday.

Some years give one more Thursday than others, and that is why the same page changes from year to year.

If a task repeats every Thursday, the count tells you how many turns remain before Black Friday. Divide your work by that number to set a fair pace. Check back whenever your plans move.

Holidays can move a plan even when the Thursday itself stays put. Look at the notes in the table before you lock in a booking.

The page counts only the Thursdays that fall before Black Friday, so the day itself is not in the total. That keeps the figure easy to check.
