Why the number of Saturdays changes each year

The week and the year do not divide evenly. One spare day a year means the same date lands a weekday later every twelve months.

March 1 falls on a Monday this time round. The weekday it lands on sets the number of Saturdays you can fit before it, which is 17 now.

Every fourth year gains a February 29. That extra day doubles the weekday shift for dates that come after it.

The count also depends on the day you check. Each Saturday that passes drops the total by one, and the number reaches zero after the last Saturday before March 1.

Using the count for planning

Reminders work best when they are tied to real dates. The Saturday list gives you each one, in order, up to March 1.

Delivery teams, rota planners and parents of busy children all like a count by weekday. It reduces a month of dates to one number.

We never count today or March 1. A reader who wants them can add one for each that falls on a Saturday.

Because a Saturday comes round only once a week, the number left before March 1 is a fair measure of time. Few other counts are as simple.

Write the Saturday dates in a calendar now. Seeing them in a row makes it harder to put things off until March 1.

Teachers, coaches and managers can use the figure to plan sessions. Each Saturday is one slot, and the page shows how many remain.

The list stops at the day before March 1. A Saturday that falls on the day itself is not included.

A good use of this number is a reminder. Pick a Saturday, set a calendar alert, and let the page do the counting.

If a task repeats every Saturday, the count tells you how many turns remain before March. Divide your work by that number to set a fair pace. Check back whenever your plans move.

The dates in the list come straight from the calendar, so leap years and month lengths are handled for you. You only need to read the answer.

A count of Saturdays is a plain fact, but it shapes decisions about leave, savings and study time. Check it whenever the plan changes.

Questions people ask

Is March 1 counted as a Saturday?

It makes no difference this year, because March 1 falls on a Monday. We never count the day itself.

Is today counted?

Today is not counted. Even when it is a Saturday, the total begins with tomorrow and changes at your local midnight.

Does the count change in another time zone?

Only around midnight. The count changes when your own local day changes, so a visitor in Sydney sees tomorrow's number hours before a visitor in New York.

Can a month have 5 Saturdays?

It can happen in any month with 29 days or more, depending on the start day. See Saturdays in 2028 for the months with five.

How many Saturdays are left in 2026?

Expect 8 before 2026 ends. The last one lands on Saturday, December 26.
