How we count the Thursdays
Each Thursday between tomorrow and the eve of February 1 is counted once. Today, Thursday, November 5, 2026, is skipped, even when it is a Thursday.
There is a reason this page exists. Weeks organise most lives, so the number of Thursdays before February is easier to feel than a total of days.
That gives 12 Thursdays between now and February. The first is Thursday, November 12, and the last is Thursday, January 28.

Why the number of Thursdays changes each year
Weeks repeat every seven days, but years run 365. The one day of slack is what moves a date from, say, a Tuesday to a Wednesday.
When February 1 is a Monday, as it is now, the count of Thursdays up to it comes to 12.
The 29th of February shakes up the rhythm. A date that moved one weekday last year may move two this time.
Visit again next week and the figure will have changed. One Thursday drops out each time one goes by, until none are left before February 1.
Using the count for planning
Weekly jobs fit neatly into a Thursday count. Mark each date, and you can see at a glance how many repeats are left.
For a promotion, a handover or a weekly call, the Thursday count shows how many turns remain before February 1.
We never count today or February 1. A reader who wants them can add one for each that falls on a Thursday.
A Thursday has its own character in the run-up to February. It is the day many people use to catch up, and the dates in the table show how many remain.
If you are not sure how much is left to do, divide it by the number of Thursdays ahead. That gives you a pace to follow.
Teachers, coaches and managers can use the figure to plan sessions. Each Thursday is one slot, and the page shows how many remain.
Treat the count as a guide. Plans change, and a Thursday may be lost to travel, illness or a public holiday.
Some years give one more Thursday than others, and that is why the same page changes from year to year.
Parents, carers and coaches who plan around a Thursday find the countdown useful. It turns a vague wait into a number you can write down. It takes a few seconds to read.
Reading the list is quicker than counting on a wall calendar. It also avoids slips, such as skipping a week or counting a day twice.
If you only care about one day a week, a single Thursday count is cleaner than a full calendar. It shows what is left in one number.
Planning around the Thursdays
Thursday, January 28 is the last Thursday before February.
Paydays before February
This planner assumes your pay lands on a Thursday. Set your next one and it lists each payday up to February.
Check your employer's calendar. Some move paydays when they fall on a holiday.
The same count in other years
The pattern across years is uneven. Check the row for your year to see where this count sits.
Weekday shown is the day February falls on. See February in the next 10 years.

Questions people ask
Is February 1 counted as a Thursday?
It makes no difference this year, because February 1 falls on a Monday. We never count the day itself.
Is today counted?
We do not count today. A Thursday that has already started is not in the total, and it rolls over at local midnight.
Does the count change in another time zone?
The count uses your device's time zone. Someone far east of you may see the next number a few hours before you do.
Can a month have 5 Thursdays?
Yes, a month can hold five Thursdays when it has at least 29 days and starts on the right weekday. See Thursdays in 2028 for the months with five.
How many Thursdays are left in 2026?
That makes 8 for the rest of 2026, the last being Thursday, December 31.
