Why the number of Fridays changes each year
Seven does not go into 365 cleanly. The remainder of one pushes a fixed date forward a weekday each year, and that is why counts change.
Where September 1 sits in the week matters. On a Wednesday it leaves room for 43 Fridays, counted from tomorrow.
Add a leap day and the weekday of September moves by two. That is why the gap between good and quiet years is uneven.
Open the page tomorrow and the number may be lower. It falls by one each time a Friday goes by, and hits zero when the last has passed.
Using the count for planning
Anything that happens every Friday can be mapped to this table. It shows how many weeks of effort are on offer.
Bin days, markets and appointments often repeat on a Friday. A count of what remains makes planning easier.
Remember that the count leaves out today and September 1 itself. If you want to include either one, add one to the number shown.
The mood of a Friday changes as September gets closer. Early on there are many to spare, and near the end each one feels precious.
When time is short, treat the last two Fridays as a buffer. Plan the main work earlier so that a slip does not matter.
A weekly habit is easier to keep when you can see the end. The list above shows how many Fridays remain, so you can pace yourself before September 1.
Most people want the headline figure. The table and the calendar show the working, in case you need to check a date.
If you share the page, others see the count for their own date. That keeps the number honest for everyone.
Clubs and classes that meet on a Friday can use the figure for their term plan. Each Friday in the list is one session you can book. Bookmark it to save time later.
If your week starts on a different day, the count of Fridays stays the same. Only the order of days around each Friday changes.
If a date in the list clashes with a trip or a deadline, you can see it long before it matters. Plan around it, or swap it out.

Questions people ask
Is September 1 counted as a Friday?
It makes no difference this year, because September 1 falls on a Wednesday. We never count the day itself.
Is today counted?
No, we leave today out. The answer begins tomorrow and steps down at midnight where you are.
Does the count change in another time zone?
Briefly, yes. Zones that are ahead roll over to the next day first, so the count can differ by one for a few hours.
Can a month have 5 Fridays?
Yes, in the longer months. The weekday of the first decides whether a fifth Friday fits. See Fridays in 2028 for the months with five.
How many Fridays are left in 2026?
