Why the number of Sundays changes each year
Every 365 day year ends one weekday later than it began. Dates follow, so each one lands a day further along the week.
Since September 1 is a Wednesday this year, the page finds 43 Sundays ahead of it. Next year the weekday, and the count, will differ.
The leap day is the only thing that breaks the one day pattern. After it, September shifts two weekdays, not one.
A passing Sunday reduces the count by one. After the final Sunday before September 1, the page shows none left.
Using the count for planning
Think of each Sunday as one slot in a schedule. The count shows how many slots are free, so you can divide the work.
Teams often use a Sunday count to plan deadlines, deliveries and sign-off dates. Shops use it to schedule promotions, and families use it to share out chores or events.
Check the edges before you rely on the total. Today and September 1 are left out, and each can add one if it is a Sunday.
For many people a Sunday is a fixed point in the week. Counting those fixed points before September 1 gives a plan with a clear rhythm.
Set a reminder on each Sunday. A small nudge once a week is enough to keep a long plan for September moving.
Think about which Sundays are already taken. Holidays, trips and events can remove some, so the true number may be smaller.
The number on this page updates each day. Come back tomorrow and a Sunday may have dropped off the list.
Some years give one more Sunday than others, and that is why the same page changes from year to year.
Keep this page open in a tab and the figure follows your own clock. If you leave it overnight, it will be correct the next morning. The numbers update each day.
Holidays can move a plan even when the Sunday itself stays put. Look at the notes in the table before you lock in a booking.
Because the Sundays are listed in order, you can spot gaps and doubled up weeks at a glance. That helps when a plan has to be rearranged.
Planning around the Sundays
Sunday, August 29 is the last Sunday before September.
Paydays before September
This planner assumes your pay lands on a Sunday. Set your next one and it lists each payday up to September.
Check your employer's calendar. Some move paydays when they fall on a holiday.
The same count in other years
Counting from the same date each year, the number of Sundays before September changes with the weekday it falls on.
Weekday shown is the day September falls on. See September in the next 10 years.
The tally above is current as of today. Check back, and it will show how many Sundays remain before September on the day you visit.
Questions people ask
Is September 1 counted as a Sunday?
It makes no difference this year, because September 1 falls on a Wednesday. We never count the day itself.
Is today counted?
Today stays out of the count. We start tomorrow, and the number changes as your own day changes.
Does the count change in another time zone?
Only for a few hours a day. Everyone else sees the same number, and it steps down when your clock passes midnight.
Can a month have 5 Sundays?
Sometimes. A month of 29 days or longer will have five Sundays when its first day is the right weekday. See Sundays in 2028 for the months with five.
How many Sundays are left in 2026?
There are 8 left in 2026. The last one is Sunday, December 27.
