Why the number of Mondays changes each year

Calendar dates drift through the week. Because a year is 52 weeks plus a day, a date that was a Monday last year is a Tuesday now.

Since June 1 is a Tuesday this year, the page finds 30 Mondays ahead of it. Next year the weekday, and the count, will differ.

Once in four years the shift doubles. The weekday of June 1 then jumps ahead by two, and the Monday count follows.

Open the page tomorrow and the number may be lower. It falls by one each time a Monday goes by, and hits zero when the last has passed.

Using the count for planning

Counting the Mondays left lets you split a goal into weekly steps. Divide the total by the number of Mondays, and the pace is clear.

For a promotion, a handover or a weekly call, the Monday count shows how many turns remain before June 1.

Two days are left out of the figure: today and June 1. When either one is a Monday, include it by adding one.

Because a Monday comes round only once a week, the number left before June 1 is a fair measure of time. Few other counts are as simple.

A useful trick is to pair each Monday with a small goal. When the count reaches zero, the work is already done.

Mark the first and the last Monday in your diary now. The ones between them then become a simple checklist.

Leap years add a day, and that can change how many Mondays fit before June 1. The page adjusts for it automatically.

The count is the same for everyone in the same time zone. Visitors in other zones may see the date move at a different hour.

The figure is a plain count of calendar days that fall on a Monday. It does not depend on weather, traffic or any local custom. Use it as a quick sanity check.

If your week starts on a different day, the count of Mondays stays the same. Only the order of days around each Monday changes.

The figure covers every Monday in the span, including ones that sit on a public holiday. The table notes those so you can allow for them.

Questions people ask

Is June 1 counted as a Monday?

It makes no difference this year, because June 1 falls on a Tuesday. We never count the day itself.

Is today counted?

Not included. The page starts counting from tomorrow, so today, even as a Monday, stays out until the day is over.

Does the count change in another time zone?

Briefly, yes. Zones that are ahead roll over to the next day first, so the count can differ by one for a few hours.

Can a month have 5 Mondays?

Yes. Months with 29 to 31 days can include a fifth Monday, and shorter ones cannot. See Mondays in 2028 for the months with five.

How many Mondays are left in 2026?

That makes 8 for the rest of 2026, the last being Monday, December 28.
